Where are you from? I rep Queens like Supreme…lol! I am from Queens, NY!
What's your favorite sneaker? Why?
I definitely go through phases. What remains consistent is the fact I love any of Nike’s running-inspired sportswear (Air Max 1s, 90s, 95s, 97, Plus, etc.). I think this is because of my athletic background. I was always in training or running sneakers so I naturally have an affinity toward Air Max! I have to say my favorite is probably my Nike Air Zoom Albis which are trail running inspired. They have such a unique, masculine look due to its bulkiness and has ridges on the outsole for traction. But I feel like I can throw them on with anything and look fly! I don’t see many women in a shoe like that so they definitely break a barrier and turn heads when I rock them.
What do you think of the current state of female sneaker culture?
Being a tomboy, I always felt like the black sheep growing up. I forced myself to wear Uggs and heels, but I never quite felt like myself then. Nowadays, I feel so comfortable with just being who I am. That’s how I know that the female sneaker culture is in full effect and it’s a thing now. My style has always been sneakers and very cozy so I am out here living my best life! I love that women wearing men’s clothes and rocking Jordans are now acceptable. I am looking forward to what 2018 is going to bring as far as women and street culture go. Obviously strides were made, but there is still a long way to go. I want to see more women designers and brands out there!
Lastly, how do you incorporate sneakers into your daily wardrobe?
How?! I wear sneakers everyday. Rain, snow, shine…I am always in kicks. Being an athlete, I was always in sneakers because I was always on my way to practice, a game, or the gym. Over the years though, the sneakers I have been wearing have gone from super athletic to more premium and stylish. I have extended my sneaker collection so I can wear them with pretty much anything and anywhere! For when I go out, I have a thing for bodycon midi dresses (modest, yet sexy) and I would pair that with Air Max 90’s or 1’s--just because they have a bit more height. I support everyone’s style, but personally for me, my rule of thumb is pairing fire kicks with a more lowkey outfit so the sneakers are the focus. Thankfully, I have more of a cozy style so sneakers can basically be paired with anything I wear. Nowadays, I am mostly in classic Air Force 1’s because they are so simple and I don’t need to worry too much about styling…especially if I am in a hurry!
